What's New?

Email notification system

Thanks to suggestions received via our online survey and other channels, registered users can now receive email notifications each time a document or procedure is updated.

From any document or procedure, click on 'Create an email alert' in the left menu and follow the instructions.

You can name your alert and choose which modifications you wish to be informed about.

Each time there is a new document published on EUR-Lex that matches the alert you have set, you will receive an email with a link to it.

You can access and edit your saved email alerts from the drop-down user menu at the top right of any page.

Read more about this feature in our help page.

Table of contents and multilingual display for documents based on the ELI

The European Legislation Identifier (ELI) is a system to make legislation available online in a standardised format, so that it can be accessed, exchanged and reused across borders.

We have used metadata from ELI to improve two features in EUR-Lex: the table of contents of a document and the multilingual display.

For ELI-based documents, the table of contents:

  • shows the text of the titles, sections, chapters and article
  • ensures that all the elements (titles, chapters and sections) are presented in the correct hierarchy
  • provides links to the preamble, citations and recitals
  • displays the final parts and the annexes.

Thanks to a better alignment of the paragraphs in the texts, the multilingual display makes it much easier to compare different language versions of documents based on ELI.

Accessibility

We have made it easier for users of assistive technologies to navigate the search links on the 'Browse by EuroVoc' page and the tables on the statistics pages.

A new document descriptor linked to the Digital Services Act

Following the adoption of the Digital Services Act (DSA), which aims to create a safer online environment for consumers and companies, a new document descriptor has been created: DSA.

The Digital Services Act specifies rules that primarily concern online intermediaries and platforms, such as social networks, content-sharing platforms, accomodation platforms and app stores. You can learn more about it in our summary of the regulation.

DSA documents are summaries of DSA decisions provided by the European Commission.

Document descriptors are used to build Celex numbers, unique identifiers assigned to most documents on EUR-Lex.

We have added this new descriptor to our table showing the Types of documents on EUR-Lex.

Customise your EUR-Lex search results list

You probably already know that you can refine your search results using additional filters.

But did you know that you can also change the way the list is presented?

On any results list, click on ‘Customise shown information’.

A box will open that allows you to choose how many results to show per page, and what metadata to display.

The metadata options include things like reference numbers, dates, classifications, and relationships between documents.

If you have very specific needs, you can go to the ‘advanced selection’ tab for even more choices.

If you are not a registered user, you can make these changes whenever you like, and they will last as long as your current session.

As a registered user, you can make these changes permanent by setting your preferences.

Read more about how to customise your results list and set your preferences on our help pages.
